"In the inner shrine he [Solomon] he carved two cherubim of wild olive wood, each ten cubits high . . . and he overlaid the cherubim with gold." (1 Kings 6:23-28) "The cherubim, whose wings were spread over the place of the Ark , formed a canopy above the Ark and its poles." (1 Kings 8:7) After a close reading of the biblical text in 1 Kings 6 and after much research and experimentation, this vision of the main hall and the Holy of Holies in the Temple of Solomon became possible.
