Pasargade in the heart of Persia was the Persian empire's first capital and it remained the ceremonial center for centuries. Cyrus began construction there of a vast estate of gardens, royal pavilions and reception halls. Excavations brought to light the major architectural components of the enclosed paradeisos, or royal gardens, enabling us to reconstruct its original appearance with a fair degree of confidence. This view is to the south in morning light.
