The oldest monumental architecture ever found, the remains of the main gate way to the Temple of Inanna in the center of Uruk were preserved in surprisingly good condition, making it possible to depict it in its heyday without much guess work. The large ritual vase carried in the foreground is preserved perfectly and I transplanted the procession scene carved around its side into reality. The king of Uruk delivers the wealth of the land to his bride waiting for him on the platform by the massive columns with her attendants in their annual enactment of the Sacred Marriage ceremony, a union of mystical significance.
